Where words fail, music speaks
Heartland Music & Wellness provides evidence-based & compassionate music therapy and counselling services that support emotional regulation, child development, communication, mental wellness, and meaningful connection for individuals and families across the lifespan. Welcome to an inviting, grounded space in the Bow Valley where finding support feels like a natural extension of your own living room, rather than a sterile or intimidating environment.
Healing through the power of music
Hi, I'm Laura
I am a certified music and counselling therapist (MTA, MA, CT, NICU-MT) and I have dedicated my career to supporting children, families, and adults since 2013. Drawing from my extensive background in pediatric healthcare, including oncology and neonatal intensive care (NICU), as well as community centers and schools, I bring a deep well of compassion to my practice. My advanced training in Neurologic Music Therapy ensures that every guest receives care that is both deeply empathetic and grounded in science.
My Approach
When you visit Heartland, I work collaboratively with you to focus on what matters most to your daily life, including:
Finding healthy ways to express and regulate emotions
Reducing daily anxiety, stress, or pain
Supporting speech and communication development
Building social skills and deeper connections
Reaching developmental milestones in a natural, unforced way
I meet you exactly where you are most comfortable. I offer one-on-one sessions in my cozy Heartland studio in Cochrane, AB, or right in the comfort of your own home. I also facilitate community group sessions and offer virtual therapy options.
Who Can Benefit?
Music therapy is a deeply adaptable approach that serves individuals and families across their entire lifespan. I warmly welcome visitors navigating a variety of life's seasons, including:
Children & Youth
I provide a fun, non-threatening environment for neurodivergent kids (including those with ADHD or Autism), medically complex youth, and children navigating anxiety, depression, or trauma.
Families & Little Ones
I support early developmental milestones, attachment, and bonding, beginning as early as the premature infant stage.
Adults & Seniors
I offer a supportive space for navigating major life transitions, cognitive maintenance, and meaningful engagement for older adults looking to enrich their current season of life.
What Parents Say
“Laura is a masterful musician and host. It’s clear she puts a lot of thought into her sessions, with a natural flow of music and dialogue. I’ve attended her sessions at the Cochrane Public Library, Half Hitch Brewery, and at her in-home studio. All have been fantastic. She brings all props, offers snacks, and good vibes.”
“My little one loves coming to music class with Laura! It’s such a welcoming and fun experience. There are tons of different instruments to explore, snacks for both parents and littles, and we have learned a ton of new songs and made some new friends! As a bonus, it is covered through our insurance as Laura is a certified counselling therapist. (Even if it wasn’t covered, we’d be happy to pay because we love it so much!)”
